DIY Projects

Tuesday - July 11 at 10:30am

Donna Marie Merritt will read her newest book "Hush that Hullabaloo!".

Children will learn some Scottish words and will join in on the soothing refrain spoken by the grandmother in the book. The story will be followed by a children's craft and book signing.

The book will be offered at a discount to those in attendance.

This is Donna's sixteenth children's book. She is a long-time Watertown resident.

Wednesdays - July 12 through August 9 at 10:30am

The Watertown Library will host family programs at which various performers and instructors will entertain and inform.

Wednesday programs this year are being sponsored by the Friends of the Watertown Library

All are free and open to the public.

  • July 12

    Li Liu, a Chinese acrobat extraordinaire will demonstrate skills she has trained in since the age of 6. Li also introduces some Chinese words and culture to her audience as she shares her story and has audience participation.
  • July 19

    The Traveling Lantern Theatre Company will present "The Ribbles Build a Residence". By playing interactive games and discovering basic building techniques the audience will help draw a ground plan while Thia Tweet the bird architect and Gerry the Ant Contractor from Brooklyn assist the Ribbles in building a new home for a better world!
  • July 26

    Jay Mankita presents "Playful Engineers: Rube Goldberg Machine Workshop". Artist/Educator Jay Mankita guides and inspires kids to construct delightfully complicated contraptions that accomplish simple tasks. Goofy fun, and real engineering, with a bit of Rube Goldberg history thrown into the mix. Plan on up to a 2 hour session.
  • August 2

    "Magic by George" is coming to town. George's fun-filled show will keep you on the edge of your seat with exciting magic, lots of audience participation and amusing family humor.
  • August 9

    Two time World Freestyle Frisbee Champion, Todd Brodeur will demonstrate basic tricks, catches and combinations. The program also includes a brief science lesson on the aerodynamics of Frisbees and a bit of history about tossing circular objects.

Thursdays - July 13 through August 10

Build and Fly your own Airplanes with HobbyQuest.

Over five sessions children will learn the fundamentals of aviation as well as valuable skills like following step-by-step instructions, sanding and gluing.

All materials are included and children take home every plane they build.

  • Grades K - 2: 10:30am - 11:30am
  • Grades 3 - 5: 11:30am - 12:30pm

Come and Read with Finn and Clover

These two beautiful Golden Retrievers, and their humans, will be happy to hear you read and will share one of their favorite stories, too.

Tuesdays - July 18 through August 1

Participate in The Art of Song featuring Belle of the Fall. Through songwriting, children will open up their creativity and self-expression.

Over three sessions, Tracy Walton and Julia Autumn Ford will lead participants as they practice writing 1st and 3rd person lyrics over a variety of song forms and then put them to music as a group.

No special musical knowledge or experience is required.

This is for children in Grades 2 - 5 from 10:30am to 11:30am.
