NEWS FROM THE BOOK NOOK ...

One of the nicest things about living in New England is that ... Spring finally comes!! With it comes a nice new crop of interesting books and authors AND our hardcover half-price book sale. So, put the enclosed flyer up on your refrigerator so you do not forget the dates.

We had especially good months in February and March. We never seemed to want for customers or donations. As the customers came in and out, so did the books. We received some really fine children's books, quite a lot of nearly new cookbooks and a plethora of others in all categories. The timing is perfect - just as we find that we do not have another inch of space to spare, it is time for a sale to help us weed out a little.

Here is a good example of the savings to be had both at regular and sale times. There is a special section for New Arrivals - Fiction/Mystery on the back of the door to the original Nook. There are approximately 7 books on each of 6 shelves, equaling 42 books. These 2007 & 2008 copyrighted editions originally cost at least $25 (!) each on the market = $1,050. Can you imagine!

We mark them at $7 and $8 - so 42 books at, say, $7.50 equals $3151 From April 1 on to April 30 one can buy the whole door full that is 42 books, for $157.50. What a bargain!

We also have reduced the prices on some of our oversized paperbacks. Plan to come in and check out all our shelves and stock up for that summer reading coming up.

Thanks to our recent training session we have additional sorters to add to our Nook family. Thursdays Lidia Bram and Sandy Treleaven work side by side with veteran Lisa Sugrue and Fridays Joan Dunleavy and Jan Krug help get things cleared away. Welcome everyone.

Our eBay Sales Manager, John Treleaven, and Queenie are in the midst of a whole new learning experience with our on-line project. We have done pretty well on some of our books for sale. However, as it happens in retail sales, sometimes nothing moves ! We are, for the moment, sticking to antique, collectible books. Like any new retail business, one must work at getting established. We are looking forward to the time when we have gotten to a point where buyers actually look to us to see what we have, as opposed to just looking for a particular book. That is when we will be on our way. Check us out on "bonlivros" on eBay book sales.

We have a really good staff built up - Roberta Berglund, Cynthia Skipp and Linda Merriman work on the necessary paper write-ups. Marsha Czarzasty and Lidia Bram will soon be re-training on a new format for the computer listing. John Tre1eaven does all the super photographs, gets the pertinent information from their write-ups and does all the rest of the work necessary to make this project a success. Many thanks to all of you.

We send our deepest sympathies to Russ Harrigan and his family on the recent death of his dear wife, Dot Harrigan. Dotty worked on the desk at the Book Nook for several years and was always ready to pitch in and help wherever she could. She will be missed.
